Keys and tips

Which format? WebP for most things on the web; AVIF when you want the smallest file; JPEG when it must work everywhere; PNG (lossless) for icons, UI and flat art; JPEG XL where it's supported.

The settings apply to every picture in the list. Click a slider's number to type a value, double-click a slider to put it back.

Lossless (no quality lost, bigger) Quality Lower: smaller file. 70 to 85 looks the same as the original for most photos. Effort AVIF speed: lower takes longer and gives a slightly smaller file. Effort PNG: higher tries harder for a smaller file (slower). The picture stays exactly the same.

Reduce colors

Colors Fewer colors: a much smaller PNG. 256 is often invisible; icons and flat art go far lower. Dithering Mixes dots of the colors left to fake the missing ones (smooth gradients). 0 for flat art and pixel art.
