These Terms govern your use of FileFortress: browsing, downloading and uploading. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. The consumer protection rights you have by law are not affected.
1. Scope and operator
FileFortress is a free, non-commercial hosting service for game-development assets, run by the operators of FileFortress (“we”, “us”). It is a hosting service within the meaning of the EU Digital Services Act (DSA). You can reach us at a moderator (use the “Report” link on any resource), which is also our single point of contact for users and authorities under Art. 11 and 12 DSA (English or German).
2. Using the site
You must be at least 13 years old to use FileFortress. If you are under 18, you need the permission of a parent or legal guardian to upload content. The site is free of charge: there are no paid plans, subscriptions or payments, and we never ask for payment details. There is no right to have content published or kept online.
3. No accounts: your PIN and edit link
Visitors have no accounts. Staff may invite individual trusted creators to an account (username, password and PIN), which lets them manage their own uploads without edit links. A creator can also link an earlier upload to their account by opening it with its edit link and PIN; its edit link, PIN and recovery phrase then stop working. Creators must keep their username, password and PIN secret, and staff can disable such an account at any time.
Everyone else uploads without an account. When you upload, you set a PIN and receive a private edit link. Together they let you edit or delete your upload later. Keep both safe and do not share them: anyone who has both can change or delete your upload. We store both only as hashes and cannot recover them. You can add a recovery phrase with a hint. With it you can get a new edit link and PIN yourself, and you must then choose a new phrase. Anyone who knows or guesses your recovery phrase can take over your upload, so choose one that others cannot guess from the hint. Without a recovery phrase, a moderator may issue a new edit link once you can show the upload is yours. Staff accounts must keep their credentials confidential.
4. Your content and licences
You keep your rights. You remain the owner of everything you upload (“your content”).
What you allow us to do. So that we can run the service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free right, limited to the operation of FileFortress, to store, copy, make publicly available and distribute your content through the site. This includes previews, thumbnails and search listings, and technical adaptation such as converting cover images to other formats or sizes. This right ends when your content is removed, except for copies in backups until they are overwritten and for use needed to meet legal obligations.
Licence to users. Every upload carries the licence you select. By uploading you grant everyone who downloads your content the rights described in that licence. Removing your upload does not withdraw the licence from people who already obtained a copy, where that licence cannot be revoked.
5. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for your content. By uploading you confirm that:
- you created it yourself or hold all the rights needed to publish it under the licence you choose;
- it does not infringe anyone’s copyright, trademark, personality, privacy or other rights, and you have permission from any identifiable person shown in it;
- it complies with applicable law, with these Terms, and with the terms of the software or platform it is made for (for example Epic Games’ Fan Content Policy or the UEFN/Unreal Engine licence);
- the information you give (title, description, licence, credits, and whether it was made with AI) is accurate;
- it contains no malware, hidden functions or other harmful code.
6. Prohibited content and conduct
You must not upload or link to, or use the site for:
- any illegal content, including content glorifying violence, hate speech or incitement, terrorist content, child sexual abuse material, or content that violates the protection of minors;
- pornographic or sexually explicit material;
- stolen, leaked, cracked or ripped assets, or paid assets you are not allowed to redistribute;
- malware, cheats or exploits for online games, or tools meant to damage systems or bypass security or copy protection;
- spam, advertising, scams or phishing;
- harassment, threats, or publishing other people’s personal data without their consent;
- impersonating others or misrepresenting who created an asset;
- flooding the site with uploads, sending the same upload repeatedly, or using automated tools (bots, scripts) to upload;
- attacking, overloading or probing the site, bypassing moderation, rate limits, blocks or other restrictions, or scraping it at scale.
7. How we moderate
Every upload and every edit is reviewed by a human moderator before it is published, except for trusted creators whom staff have explicitly allowed to publish directly; their content can still be reviewed, restricted or removed at any time, like all content. Automated checks only limit request rates and filter obvious spam; they never approve or remove content on their own. Moderators decide diligently, objectively and proportionately, with due regard to the rights and legitimate interests of everyone involved, including freedom of expression.
We may reject, restrict, hide or remove content that is illegal or breaks these Terms. To protect the site against spam, uploads are limited per network and in total, and moderators can block a network from uploading for up to 30 days after spam or repeated violations. When we reject or remove your content, we tell you why on your upload’s edit page (Art. 17 DSA), as far as that is possible without an account. If you think a decision is wrong, contact a moderator (use the “Report” link on any resource) with your edit link and we will review it again.
8. Reporting illegal content
Anyone can notify us of content they believe is illegal (Art. 16 DSA): use the “Report” link on the resource or contact a moderator (use the “Report” link on any resource). A notice should include:
- an explanation of why you believe the content is illegal;
- the exact link (URL) to the content;
- your name and email address (not needed for reports of child sexual abuse material);
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the notice is accurate and complete.
We handle notices promptly, diligently and objectively, and tell you our decision if you gave contact details. We may ignore notices that are clearly unfounded, and stop accepting notices from people who often send them.
9. Copyright
We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe content on FileFortress infringes your copyright or other rights, send a notice as described in section 8, naming the protected work and confirming that you hold the rights or act on their holder’s behalf. We remove or block access to content once we know it is infringing. Uploaders affected by a removal can respond as described in section 7. Repeated infringement leads to access being blocked.
10. Using downloaded assets
Assets are provided by the community, not by us. Each download may be used only under the licence shown on its page. Redistributing assets without the rights holder’s permission or outside that licence is prohibited. We do not check assets for technical quality, fitness for a purpose or freedom from defects. Scan files before you open them and keep backups of your projects.
11. Availability of the service
FileFortress is provided free of charge, without any guaranteed availability. We may change, limit, pause (for example uploads while storage is being maintained) or discontinue the service or individual features, with reasonable notice where we can give it. Keep your own copies of what you upload. The site is not a backup service.
12. Liability
We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz). Because the service is provided free of charge, we are otherwise not liable, and in particular not for slight negligence (following §§ 521, 599 BGB). We are also not liable for content uploaded by users unless we knew it was illegal and failed to act. These limitations also apply to the people who run and moderate the site.
13. Indemnity
If third parties (for example rights holders) bring claims against us because content you uploaded or your use of the site infringed their rights, and you are responsible for that infringement, you must indemnify us against those claims. This includes the reasonable costs of legal defence. This does not apply if you are not at fault.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may amend these Terms for valid reasons, such as changes in the law or new features. The date at the top shows the current version. Each use of the site is governed by the version in force at that time. Changes do not affect content you uploaded earlier to your disadvantage without your consent. If you do not agree with a change, you can stop using the site and delete your uploads at any time.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you habitually reside.
16. Not affiliated
Not affiliated with Epic Games, Blender Foundation or any other software vendor. All product names, logos and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility.
17. Final provisions
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data: Privacy Policy. If any provision of these Terms is invalid, the rest remain in effect and the statutory rules apply in its place. If these Terms are translated, the English version governs.
